Description of Pictures: Nick Galifianakis - If You Loved Me You'd Think This Was Cute:
Since 1997 Galifianakis has drawn the cartoons for the nationally syndicated advice column by Carolyn Hax, a selection of which appeared in the 2001 book, Tell Me About It: Lying, Sulking, Getting Fat ... and 56 Other Things NOT to Do While Looking for Love. In their encore, the team offers tips about relationships of all kinds, with Galifianakis’s witty drawings making the point that if we can laugh about it, we’ll be all right.
The speaker was introduced by Mike Giarratano, events manager for Politics and Prose.

Andy Kindler
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Andrew Francis "Andy" Kindler (born October 16, 1956) is an American stand-up comedian from New York City who now resides in Los Angeles.
Stand up:
His material often covers the comedy industry itself, criticizing other comedians for being too predictable. One of his more notable criticisms was that of Dane Cook where he compared the comedian's rise to that of Adolf Hitler's. He then went on to say that Cook was worse than Hitler, because at least Hitler had a point of view. Andy often criticizes his own comedy even in the middle of his act. If a joke doesn't do well he'll immediately start discussing why it didn't work with the crowd.
Kindler has a standup DVD entitled I Wish I was Bitter, which is available for sale exclusively on his website.
Acting:
He played the character "Andy" a fellow sportswriter and friend of Raymond on the TV show Everybody Loves Raymond, is a regular guest on Late Show with David Letterman, contributor to The Daily Show and has performed on HBO. He is also known for his annual "State of the Industry" address at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal. In 2010, Kindler was a judge on the stand-up reality show Last Comic Standing. In 2010 he appeared on several episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place as Chancellor Tootietootie.
As a voice actor, Kindler has made numerous appearances on Dr. Katz and Home Movies from producer Loren Bouchard. He regularly voices the character of Mort, a mortician and the Belchers' neighbor, on Bouchard's show Bob's Burgers.
Kindler is often thought to have portrayed the character of "Jamison" in the World Wrestling Federation, but the character was portrayed by a different actor by the name of John DiGiacomo.

GALIF3_110211_021.JPG: How much older do you plan on looking?
GALIF3_110211_024.JPG: I'll get the check. You'll get to ponder what that means.
GALIF3_110211_027.JPG: I was going to wait to break up with you. But then I thought, "No, she's tough. She'd want the truth."
GALIF3_110211_030.JPG: I always have sex on the first date. Rules out the jerks who rule out women who have sex on the first date.
GALIF3_110211_036.JPG: Here. It's called an aphrodisiac.
GALIF3_110211_040.JPG: How about one of just me, for when we break up
GALIF3_110211_044.JPG: I busted him not looking at other women. That's when I knew he was seeing someone else.
GALIF3_110211_048.JPG: Mike, this is Derek, whom you know from snooping through my e-mail
GALIF3_110211_051.JPG: The guy I'm going to start seeing after we break up agrees with me, and says you're being a jerk.
GALIF3_110211_057.JPG: You're right, you deserve some kind of decision. One has a ring, one has my house key, one has cab fare.
GALIF3_110211_061.JPG: Agreed: We split the accounts 50-50, and neither of us loses 20 pounds or becomes what the other always wanted.
GALIF3_110211_067.JPG: Good conversation with bad sex, or good sex with bad conversation? Happy endings no longer amuse me.
GALIF3_110211_079.JPG: I don't want to be naked in some garden for the rest of my life, you know.
Origins of "The Conversation."
GALIF3_110211_085.JPG: What do you mean I'll meet someone else. Who?
GALIF3_110211_089.JPG: Not want more fur. Want passion.
GALIF3_110211_092.JPG: It's just going to be me. The groom was ruining everything.
GALIF3_110211_099.JPG: I nurse you through the torment of this guy, bite my tongue at the vows, and you thank me... with this dress. Which I pay for. To friendship!
GALIF3_110211_104.JPG: Your friendship is just too valuable to me -- I'm hiring actresses to be my bridesmaids.
GALIF3_110211_108.JPG: And this is what my daughter would have worn if she loved me enough to have a real wedding.
GALIF3_110211_112.JPG: Okay. You have two hours to make "alone forever" sound less appealing to me than it does right now.
GALIF3_110211_115.JPG: Things would be a lot easier if you hated your husband as much as I do
GALIF3_110211_119.JPG: You almost make me forget I'm settling
GALIF3_110211_122.JPG: Wait a second -- you want me to change color and turn myself upside down?
GALIF3_110211_130.JPG: Happy?
GALIF3_110211_132.JPG: Interesting. What about that, Phil? How do you feel about becoming someone else entirely?
GALIF3_110211_135.JPG: The important thing is, I've finally made peace with myself
GALIF3_110211_138.JPG: I used to be ashamed that I was afraid of everything, but then it hit me: I'm prey.
GALIF3_110211_153.JPG: Look, you make some good points but none of them overpowers my need to blame others.
GALIF3_110211_161.JPG: She says her ex-husband is on his way up, and could she come watch
GALIF3_110211_165.JPG: I can't shake the feeling that I was somehow destined for more. I want to see Paris.

GALIF3_110211_189.JPG: Man. She really messed with your head.
GALIF3_110211_195.JPG: Well, for starters, you're a weenie
GALIF3_110211_198.JPG: "Talking like bunnies" just doesn't have the same ring to it
GALIF3_110211_204.JPG: Herbivores are impossible to cook for. And they're just, I don't know, weird.
GALIF3_110211_210.JPG: I'm feeling emotionally detached from our relationship. I mean, even for a cat.
GALIF3_110211_221.JPG: Your way, I'm 28, and in 2 months I'll be 29, and in 2 more months I'll be 30. I just don't need that.
GALIF3_110211_236.JPG: Think about it. Besides our two walks, what do we really share? Falling asleep in front of the TV?
GALIF3_110211_240.JPG: Hey, until he follows you around every morning with a little plastic bag, I think we both know who's calling the shots.
GALIF3_110211_250.JPG: ... And so she says, "That's it! It's me or the dog."

2011 photos: Equipment this year: I mostly used the Fuji S100fs camera as well as two Nikon models -- the D90 and the new D7000. Mostly a toy, I also purchased a Fuji Real 3-D W3 camera, to try out 3-D photographs. I found it interesting although I don't see any real use for 3-D stills now. Given that many of the photos from the 1860s were in 3-D (including some of the more famous Civil War shots), it's odd to see it coming back.
Trips this year:
Civil War Trust conferences (Savannah, GA, Chattanooga, TN),
New Jersey over Memorial Day for my birthday (people never seem to visit New Jersey -- it's always just a pit stop on the way to New York. I thought I might as well spend a few days there. Despite some nice places, it still ended up a pit stop for me -- New York City was infinitely more interesting),
my 6th consecutive San Diego Comic-Con trip (including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco).
Ego strokes: Author photos that I took were used on two book jackets this year: Jason Emerson's book "The Dark Days of Abraham Lincoln's Widow As Revealed by Her Own Letters" and Dennis L. Noble's "The U.S. Coast Guard's War on Human Smuggling." I also had a photo of Jason Stelter published in the Washington Examiner and a picture of Miss DC, Ashley Boalch, published in the Washington Post.
Number of photos taken this year: just over 390,000.
