Description of Pictures: Fire and Water: The CIGNA Firefighting and Maritime Collection
October 28, 2005 – July 13, 2006
Visitors can watch through large windows as curators process a collection of nearly 4,000 firefighting and maritime materials that date from 1825-1875, the heyday of voluntary fire organizations. Highlights include an 1892 Steam Fire Engine Model, an 1850 firefighter's parade hat, and many maritime and firefighting paintings, including one by Currier and Ives. Also on view on the 1st floor (west corridor) is an 1850 hand-drawn hose reel, a hand-drawn cart with a reel that carried fire hoses. Donated in October 2005 to the museum by CIGNA, the nation's oldest fire and marine insurer.

1. SIAHFW_060428_01.JPG: Hand-drawn Hose Reel (about 1850): Built by Robert Frazier of Philadelphia for the Reliance Hose Company No. 3 of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. It could carry 400 to 600 feet of leather hose.

2006 photos: Equipment this year: I was using all six Fuji cameras at various times -- an S602Zoom, two S7000s,a S5200, an S9000, and an S9100. The majority of pictures this year were taken with the S9000. I have to say, the S7000s was the best camera I've used up to this point.. Trips this year: Florida (two separate trips including Lotusphere and taking care of mom), three weeks out west (including Yellowstone), Williamsburg, San Diego (comic book convention), and Georgia. Number of photos taken this year: 183,000.
