Description of Pictures: Notes:
June 7: There are multiple groups painting storefronts now. The Paint the Storefront group was painting on glass only. Now there are ones painting on the plywood. Several of those are included here. I talked with Mel Bieler who said her group was doing Denver Smith Foundation painting on plywood for BLM. They had started the previous day and I had run into some of them near 14th and K. All of their's have #cre8change in the message. I also talked to an artist who was doing something for the National Women in the Arts Museum and she said her work was for the museum itself.
June 9: During my travels, I happened on Zaytinya in the Penn Station area where an artist known as Monolith was working on a new piece.
August 9: By this point, murals are done by all sorts of groups:
* Paint the Storefronts: Busboys and Poets' Andy Shallal's response to a broken window at his store in Anacostia led him to use the store windows for positive messages. Jose Andres got involved in this one as well.
* Arts Brookfield and P.A.I.N.T.S Institute started a series of paintings in DC for a "Murals & Meals" project. Those started around May 18 and are supposed to be up through September 1. They did "25 public facing murals of love, hope and inspiration at several locations throughout the DC metropolitan area. The program also donated 600+ individually boxed meals to First Responders, Healthcare workers, Essential workers, and Homeless District residents."
* The BLM protests beginning in June started another wave of murals. One of the groups involved in this was the Denver Smith Foundation. Most of these murals are on boarded up windows.

The Denver Smith Foundation was founded to honor the life & legacy of Denver Smith, a black college student murdered by police officers during a peaceful protest.
#cre8change was designed to bring together a collective of liberated (artists) who believe in using creative expression to uplift communities who have faced injustice, and the movements that support them.
PSTORE_200607_048.JPG: Mel Bieler (right) works with the Denver Smith group working on the street murals. She said that the group paints the murals and then auctions them off to raise money. She said Meghan Malik was heading the project here.

PSTORE_200708_024.JPG: Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
for my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winces nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeoning of chance, my heart is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears looms the horror of the shade,
and yet the menace of the year finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
how charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul

2020 photos: Well, that was a year, wasn't it? The COVID-19 pandemic cut off most events here in DC after March 11.
The child president's handling of the pandemic was a series of disastrous missteps and lies, encouraging his minions to not wear masks and dramatically increasing infections and deaths here. The BLM protests started in June, made all the worse by the child president's inability to have any empathy for anyone other than himself. Then of course he tried to steal the election in November. What a year!
Equipment this year: I continued to use my Fuji XS-1 cameras but, depending on the event, I also used a Nikon D7000.
The farthest distance I traveled after that was about 40 miles. I only visited sites in four states -- Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and DC. That was the least amount of travel I had done since 1995.
Number of photos taken this year: about 246,000, the fewest number of photos I had taken in any year since 2007.
