I love well-behaved spiders! They are, in fact, how most people find my site. Unfortunately, my network has a limited bandwidth and pictures take up bandwidth. Spiders ask for lots and lots of pages and chew up lots and lots of bandwidth which slows things down considerably for regular folk. To counter this, you'll see all the text on the page but the images are being suppressed. Also, some system options like merges are being blocked for you.
Note: Permission is NOT granted for spiders, robots, etc to use the site for AI-generation purposes. I'm sure you're thrilled by your ability to make revenue from my work but there's nothing in that for my human users or for me.
If you are in fact human, please email me at guthrie.bruce@gmail.com and I can check if your designation was made in error. Given your number of hits, that's unlikely but what the hell.

The Victims of Communism Memorial enshrines the more than 100 million men, women, and children struck down by 20th century totalitarian communist regimes.
Communist leaders attracted countless millions throughout the world with their "big lie" promises of a classless, egalitarian society free of poverty and oppression. But in fact communist dictators wielded centralized authority and employed brutal measures to crush all those who rebelled against the suppression of their freedoms.
Imprisonment and executions were used with devastating effect as were deportation, famine, and forced labor. Millions of innocents died in Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Memories of their sacrifice endure in the hearts and minds of families and friends.
The memorial offers no image of repression or despair. Rather, it features a universally recognized symbol of hope inspired by the "Goddess of Democracy" statue erected by Chinese students in Tianamen Square in 1989. Like the Statue of Liberty, the memorial reminds us of the power of freedom to combat and ultimately overcome tyranny.
The estimated deaths from communism over thirty nations on four continents are staggering. They include:
U.S.S.R., 20 million;
China, 65 million;
Vietnam, 1 million;
North Korea, 2 million;
Cambodia, 2 million;
Eastern Europe, 1 million;
Latin American, 150,000;
Africa, 1.7 million;
Afghanistan, 1.5 million;
the international communist movement and Communist parties not in power, 19,000.

Wikipedia Description: Victims of Communism Memorial
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Victims of Communism Memorial is a memorial in Washington, D.C. at the intersection of Massachusetts and New Jersey Avenues and G Street, N.W., two blocks from Union Station and within view of the U.S. Capitol.
The intended purpose of the memorial is "that the history of communist tyranny will be taught to future generations."
The Victims of Communism Memorial was dedicated by President George W. Bush on June 12, 2007, the 20th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's "tear down this wall" speech in front of the Berlin Wall.
Background:
H.R. 3000, sponsored by Representative Dana Rohrabacher and Tom Lantos and Senators Claiborne Pell and Jesse Helms, to authorize the memorial passed unanimously on December 17, 1993 and was signed into law by President Bill Clinton, becoming Public Law 103-199 Section 905. Due to delays in establishing the memorial, the authorization was subsequently extended through Section 326 of Public Law 105-277, approved October 21, 1998, until December 17, 2007. The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation has the duty of funding and directing the first stages of planning the memorial.
In November 2005, the National Capital Planning Commission gave approval to the monument's design, featuring a 10-foot (3 m) bronze replica of the Goddess of Democracy erected by students during the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. The monument's design and the statue are works of sculptor Thomas Marsh. It is labeled as a memorial "to commemorate the more than 100 million victims of communism." After raising over US$825,000 for construction and maintenance costs, the groundbreaking ceremony was held in September 2006.
The statue drew criticism from the Chinese embassy because the memorial evokes the Tiananmen Square protests. The embassy called its construction an "attempt to defame China."
Dedication ceremony:
On June 12, 2007, the Memorial was officially dedicated. Among the hundreds of invited guests, there were people who directly suffered from Communism regimes, such as Vietnamese poet Nguyen Chi Thien, Chinese political prisoner Harry Wu, Lithuanian anticommunist journalist Nijole Sadunaite and others. During the opening ceremony, President George W. Bush named some of those who suffered from Communism in anonymity:
“ They include innocent Ukrainians starved to death in Stalin's Great Famine; or Russians killed in Stalin's purges; Lithuanians and Latvians and Estonians loaded onto cattle cars and deported to Arctic death camps of Soviet Communism. They include Chinese killed in the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution; Cambodians slain in Pol Pot's Killing Fields; East Germans shot attempting to scale the Berlin Wall in order to make it to freedom; Poles massacred in the Katyn Forest; and Ethiopians slaughtered in the "Red Terror"; Miskito Indians murdered by Nicaragua's Sandinista dictatorship; and Cuban balseros who drowned escaping tyranny.
