Killed in Afghanistan
National Public Radio photojournalist David Gilkey risked his life to cover dangerous stories, from fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and Rwanda to the Ebola crisis in Liberia. In June 2016, he was traveling with an Afghan army convoy when Taliban militants opened fire. Gilkey and his NPR colleague, Afghan journalist Zabihullah Tamanna, were killed.
