Existing comment: Plate with Fish, 1879
This plate is from a service ordered by former president Ulysses S. Grant and his wife during their round-the-world tour in 1879. While shopping in Canton, the Grants acquired twenty-four plates and two serving platters with fitted strainers. The fish, possibly a bream, is said to copy a type on porcelain from Limoges, France, but the border is of Chinese inspiration.
