Existing comment: The President's Home:
Until the early 1900s, the Second Floor of the White House held both the president's office and the first family's private quarters. Official visitors often encroached on the family's privacy as they waited to meet with the president. Since the creation of the West Wing offices in 1902, however, the Second Floor has become a refuge for the president and his family. Although a dedicated residence staff takes care of many domestic duties, living in the public eye still poses unique challenges. Every first family struggles to balance their personal lives against the demands of public service.
