One of the basic foundations of American liberty, the First Amendment to the Constitution forbids Congress from making any law "abridging the freedom of speech."
President's Park provides a forum for practicing this fundamental right. Individual demonstrators and large groups can safely gather to voice their concerns directly to the president. The National Park Service oversees the impartial rules governing the hundreds of demonstrations, vigils, marches, and other forms of peaceful protect that occur here each year.
