Existing comment: President's Park:
In the early 1800s, the White House grounds consisted of muddy fields filled with building debris and workmen's huts. As the city expanded, this land was transformed into a green oasis at the heart of a thriving urban center. Shaped by successive plans guiding the city's development, President's Park reached its current configuration in the 1960s. Today, it covers approximately 64 acres and includes Lafayette Park, the Ellipse and its side panels, the First Division Monument, and Sherman Park. Open to the public for celebrations, demonstrations, special events, and everyday recreation, President's Park highlights the White House's place is a democratic society.
