The North Lawn:
Set back from Pennsylvania Avenue, the North Lawn is currently planted with shade trees, boxwoods, and flowers. It previously featured an ornamental Victorian garden. The circular fountain, added for President Ulysses S. Grant (1869-77), replaced a bronze statue of President Thomas Jefferson (1801-09).
