In the 1970s, the War Department buildings were dismantled and the offices relocated to Northern Virginia. Constitution Gardens emerged from the site featuring a lake and the 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence monument. In 2004, the World War II Memorial was built around an original feature of the McMillan Plan, the Rainbow Pool. |
