Rifled Musket
The rifled musket was the most common infantry weapon used by both sides; it combined the musket's rate-of-fire with the accuracy of a rifle. In the 1850s, the use of flint and steel to produce a spark was replaced by a more reliable percussion system. This was one of 31,000 manufactured by the Richmond Armory on machinery captured from Harpers Ferry in 1861. |
