Existing comment: Falling Creek Ironworks
After 1622
Several attempts after 1622 to restore the ironworks failed. In the late 1600s William Byrd I built a gristmill at Falling Creek; its partially standing stone walls survive. A forge was established at Falling Creek in 1750 by Archibald Cary. It was burned by the British under Benedict Arnold in 1781. Its wooden foundations were uncovered in 2007.
