Existing comment: Skull of Martin's Hundred Colonist, 1622 (Reproduction)
In 1978, archaeologists found evidence of the 1622 attacks.
Of the early settlements, Martin's Hundred, located seven miles from Jamestown, suffered the greatest lost [sic] of life and complete destruction. In search of physical evidence of the massacre there, archaeologists, uncovered this skull of a tall, muscular man, whose forehead had been split by a bladed weapon, perhaps a spade or cleaver. A cut on the left brow suggests he was scalped.
