Odetta Holmes
Although Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., claimed that Odetta Holmes was the "Queen of American Folk Music," she considered herself "one of the privates in a very big army." She influenced many artists, including Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. Her first recording of Oh Freedom was part of a spiritual trilogy that also included Come and Go with Me and I'm on My Way. Her songs have been called "the soundtrack of the civil rights movement."
