Existing comment: Jefferson Davis's cigar, 1865
According to a label once attached to it, this unusual object was "preserved as a relic of the Great Rebellion." At the capture of Confederate president Jefferson David in Georgia in 1865, his trunk was confiscated. In 1874, the secretary of war ordered that all the contents be returned "to their owner," with the exception of one of the cigars.
