Fairy Queen Cigarette Company, Lynchburg
late 19th century
This strange-looking pack of cigarette contains a printed insert that promises the product "will not injure your health in any way" and contains "no opium." A "corn shuck mouth-piece... extracts the nicotine." Note "which end to light, and do not put Cigarette too far in the mouth." The boy pictured, who does not smoke, is William Hubbard Loyd, son of James Edward Loyd, who developed the corn filter.
