Existing comment: Jefferson or Burr?

Hamilton had repeatedly clashed with Aaron Burr for decades.
He watched Burr's caginess during the drafting of the Constitution, his bribing of New York state legislators, and his gross trickery in establishing a New York bank.
Hamilton concluded that Burr lacked principles.
Because Hamilton detested the unscrupulous Burr even more than he hated Jefferson -- whom he considered misguided but honorable -- he convinced several Federalist electors to switch their support to Jefferson, giving victory to his political enemy.
