Existing comment: Infantry (Spring) Mural
In this mural, an infantry column advances into battle somewhere in the Shenandoah Valley during the spring of 1862. Confederate general Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson (mounted at right) stoically looks on as an officer salutes Jackson with his cap as the head of the column passes.
Divided into regiments of 1,012 men, the infantry made up 80 percent of a Civil War army. Here, Hoffbauer celebrates their contribution to Confederate successes during the early years of the war at Manassas, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, in the Shenandoah Valley, and around Richmond.
