Existing comment: Flight to the States

In 1959, The Advertiser sent Oliphant on a six-month trip to the other side of the world to see how cartoonists worked in different countries. His editor only allowed him to go after he signed a contract agreeing to stay five years upon his return. He began applying for jobs in the U.S. as soon as the five years came to close. When the Denver Post's Paul Conrad moved to the Los Angeles Times, Oliphant applied, and got the job. Soon, he, his wife Henny, and their two children were on their way to the Rocky Mountains.
