During World War II, thousands of women serve with the Army. The Women's Army Corps (WAC) becomes a permanent part of the Army in 1943. WACs serve in the United States and overseas. The Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) ferry aircraft to free up male pilots for combat duty.
