Post-renovation
The Library Building, in the background, was built some ten years after the complex's three original buildings. It was dedicated in 1961 to the memory of Dag Hammarskjold, the second Secretary-General of the United Nations, who died in a plane crash in the Congo, Africa, that same year. The future of the Library is uncertain.
