Existing comment: Inukshuk

In the vast expanse of the Arctic, Inuit hunters and travelers are very sensitive to the need for points of reference and markers to help them find their way. The Inukshuk was created for this purpose.
These stone figures, silhouetted against the horizon, welcome and guide the traveler on his or her journey. The Inukshuk features prominently in the art and life of circumpolar peoples. Arctic art is an integral part of Inuit heritage, and expressive of that which gives meaning and assures survival. In this time of accelerating global change, centering around the UN the Inukshuk could take on a meaning far beyond its uses with the Arctic regions, becoming a metaphor for all humanity looking to find its way.
It is with great pleasure that we present this Inukshuk to the United Nations as a permanent symbol to help all peoples and nations represented in this great building discover their paths to a peaceful future.
