These traits are on full display in this double-edged salutation that both honors and mocks Trump's critics on the twelfth anniversary of America's deadliest terror attack. A product of late Birther Era angst, the original 7:21 A.M. version of this tweet was deleted circa 2015 (Early Campaign Phase); yet this 8:12 P.M. manual self-retweet, which for some reason was not also deleted, allows the work to live on. These faux-naïf modifications only redouble the tweet's meaning: simultaneously an admission of impropriety and a bold provocation towards the very "haters and losers" he addresses. Though he continued to work in the "insult-comic statesman" genre on subsequent holidays, no other tweet matches the discursive complexity of this confrontational tour de force. |
