Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park
* Established by the President on March 25, 2013 by an executive order under The Antiquities Act of 1906, a Presidential Proclamation created the National Monument. However, on December 19, 2014, Congress passes legislation to establish the National Historical Park, National Defense Authorization Act.
* Will protect landscapes and places that were important to Tubman's life as an enslaved child, young woman and freedom seeker in Dorchester County.
* Federal land ownership is required. Donation of land adjacent to Stewart's Canal from The Conservation Fund. Previously owned by Jacob Jackson. |
