A prayer book, watch, and glasses belonging to Mary Surratt are displayed here with an embroidered handkerchief belonging to her son, John Harrison Surratt Jr.
Also shown is the key to Old Capitol prison for Mrs. Surratt was held briefly following her arrest on April 17, 1865, and a tinted carte-de-viste entitled morning, noon, and nice. This was displayed at her Washington home and behind it, authorities found a photo of John Wilkes Booth. This was used as evidence against Mrs. Surratt. |
