The General Theological Seminary
The internationally recognized General Theological Seminary, established in 1818 to train Episcopal leaders, held its first classes in St. Paul's Chapel. Two parishioners made it possible for the seminary to create an extensive campus further uptown in Chelsea. One of the generous donors, Clement Clarke Moore, became famous as the author of, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."
