1880s-1960s Jim Crow laws:
Many states and cities enforce segregation through so-called Jim Crow laws. This small sampling of such laws reflects how they affected virtually every aspect of life.
The name Jim Crow was that of a character in popular minstrel shows: white performers would rub their faces with charcoal or burnt cork and sing and dance in caricatured impersonations of black men.
