Today, one species -- Homo sapiens -- changes ecosystems in global ways. Humans leave a "footprint" on the Earth, from our population to our built environment, our large-scale agriculture to our electric lights, roads, and waterways. These human pressures on natural systems place many species at risk for extinction. |
