18% of animal species over 110 lbs (50 kg) disappeared between 45,000 and 4,000 years ago.

Extinction in Eurasia

Many scientists think these extinctions were caused by a combination of human hunting, habitat change, and changing climate.
Modern humans (Homo sapiens) arrived in Eurasia from Africa between 75,000 and 60,000 years ago, encountering many new kinds of animals as well as challenging climate conditions. Large animals in Eurasia had adapted to hunting by earlier hominins, which may have helped lower their rate of extinction when this new hunter appeared.
