Existing comment: Sheridan Circle; Statue

This is a statue of Union General Philip Sheridan, for whom this traffic circle was renamed in 1890, two years after his death. The statue was done by sculptor Gutzon Borglum, who created Mount Rushmore, and was installed in 1908. Sheridan's widow had moved here in 1905 to be near the circle named after him and was delighted by the statue.

Originally, the circle had been known as the Decatur Circle.
