The desk is Henry Clay's. It was used by him while he was speaker of the House of Representatives when the national government settled into the Old Brick Capitol after the British burned down the real one in 1814. The National Woman's Party moved into the Old Brick Capitol from 1922-29 after which is was torn down to make room for the Library of Congress. |
