Existing comment: Documentary filmmaker Donn Alan (D.A.) Pennebaker passed on August 1, 2019. An early pioneer in the cinéma vérité (direct cinema) genre, he received a lifetime Oscar in 2013 for his work. Originally working with fellow pioneer Robert Drew, they released their first major film "Primary" in 1960. He did a bunch of music films like "Monterey Pop" (1968), "Alice Cooper" (1970), "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" (1973), "101" (1989), and "Woodstock Diary" (1994) as well as other political ones like "The War Room" (1993).
