Sicilian Donkey Cart:
This cart was specifically commissioned to commemorate the successful conclusion of the Sicilian Campaign by Patton's Seventh Army. The paintings and carvings depict the various conquerors and conquering armies of Sicily, including the Seventh Army under Patton. The cart is hand carved and painted over its entire surface. The names of the two artists are painted on the rear of the frame. It was presented to General George S. Patton Jr. by the Bishop of Palermo, Sicily in 1944. |
