Another word for armistice is truce. Although the fighting had stopped, it was only temporary. A formal peace agreement had to be signed. A peace conference was held in Paris in January of 1919. The Allies decided how the new map of Europe would look. Germany was held responsible for starting the war. Germany and its allies did not get to discuss the treaty. They felt the treaty was unfair and they were not the only ones to blame for the war. Germany was forced to sign the treaty or the Allies threatened to invade. The results of this conference changed the maps of Europe and set the stage for the next year.
