Existing comment: Bartos Forum, today, 2016

Today, the Library's Celeste Bartos Forum hosts an array of vibrant public programs and special events. The space was originally the building's center for book circulation. In 1970, the Mid-Manhattan Library -- NYPL's largest branch -- was established across the street to accommodate the growing collections and increased usage. The room closed to the public and was used for storage due to economic difficulties until its restoration in 1987 through the generosity of the late Celeste Bartos.
