Croton Reservoir, New York City, 1850
Before the construction of the Library's iconic 42nd Street building, the Croton Distributing Reservoir stood in its place, serving as New York City's primary water source through much of the 19th century. It was demolished in 1900, but parts of the reservoir's original foundation can still be found in the library's South Court. |
