Founded in 1804, this institution is the oldest museum in the city. Its research library and museum hold the architectural files of McKim, Mead & White, as well as the original watercolors of John James Audubon's Birds of America. The central colonnaded section was completed in 1908 by York & Sawyer in an austere classical style derived from the architecture of ancient Rome, while the wings were designed by Walker & Gillette in 1938.
