Existing comment: Hair of Harriet Moore Francis, ca 1844
Families commonly kept samples of hair clipped from relatives at different stages of their lives. Well into the 20th century, hair from a child's first haircut was particularly treasured. These packets contain locks of hair cut from Harriet Moore Francis who married the sculptor, John Rogers Jr. Five packets hold hair cut from Francis when she was an infant, and at ages one, two, and three years old.
