In the early 1960s, television eroded the market and advertising base for magazines such as The Post. Most photographic covers resulted in fewer opportunities for the storytelling illustrations Rockwell loved to do; seven of Rockwell's final twelve Post covers are celebrity portraits. Rockwell was unhappy with is last assignments for the magazine and became more interesting in covering contemporary issues. In 1963, after forty-seven years, Rockwell left the Post. In January 1964, Rockwell's first illustration for Look appeared, signaling the start of a new era for the artist.
