An individual's dental characteristics, such as the pattern of extractions, restorations, and caries, are unique. Dental X-rays provide detailed evidence that may help identify a fallen service member. Forensic dentists compare dental remains with antemortem dental records of missing individuals. Today, all U.S. service members are required to have an annual dental examination, which provides dental charts and radiographs that can be matched with postmorten evidence. |
