Private Henry Cady, Co. K, 207th Pennsylvania Volunteers, received a gunshot wound to the left hip at the Battle of Petersburg on April 2, 1865. He died on April 5, 1865 aboard the hospital steamer State of Maine en route to Alexandria, VA for treatment. During the Civil War, several sidewheel steamers such as the State of Maine were converted into hospital ships to aid the transport of sick and wounded along the Mississippi River or coastal areas such as Virginia.
