Existing comment: Accidental injuries were not uncommon during the war. Private John Brown, age 19, Company I, 109th New York, was accidentally shot in the left foot with a minie ball at Mason's Island, Virginia, on November 3rd, 1863. He entered Armory Square hospital on the same day. His limb was amputated three days later and he was discharged from service on march 22nd, 1864.
