Hundreds of geoglyphs cover the desert surface along the coast of southern Peru. The densest and most elaborate of the glyphs are in the Nasca River valley. This map of the region shows the three different types of geoglyphs which were created one over the other: the earliest are the figurative designs (in yellow); later are the long straight lines; and the latest are the long thin rectangles (in dark orange).
