The Stirlings were both archaeologists specializing in ancient Mexico. In the 1930s they discovered a culture in southern Mexico that pre-dated the Maya by several hundred years. It was characterized by great stone heads sculpted in basalt that had been carved and transported from quarries dozens of kilometers away. |
