Existing comment: Decorated eggs:
The egg, an ancient symbol of birth and renewal, has long been used by European Christians to celebrate the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday. In Ukraine, some eggs are dyed a single color and enjoyed as food. Others, known as pysanky, or "written" eggs, are adorned more elaborately and never eaten, but displayed or exchanged as gifts. The pysanky shown here are decorated with patterns from many parts of Ukraine.
