Existing comment: East Building Exterior Stone Repairs:
This construction project involves the removal and reinstallation of the marble cladding in order to replace the support brackets that hold the stone panels in place.
The East Building will remain open to the public during the entire project, which is expected to be completed by Spring 2014.
About 16,200 three-inch-thick Tennessee pink panels, weighing approximately 450 pounds each, are being removed and reinstalled with new anchors and gaskets.
Instead of using conventional or fixed scaffolding over the entire building, a more open vertical-access system is being employed.
When the repair project is completed, the East Building and its landscaping will be restored to their original appearance.
