The Families Now
As Jamil and Ammar resettled in the United States, Ammar got an anonymous phone call threatening to kill his family, forcing them to move yet again. THey found a new home and a supportive community elsewhere in Connecticut.
Ammar's wife Raghida learned to drive, sells her artwork at a local gallery and works as a caterer. Ammar washed dishes in a restaurant and now works as an Uber driver. Jamil and his wife Oulah also started a catering business. The children in both families are thriving.
In Syria, the Assad regime has retaken control of much of the country from opposition groups. The 7-year civil war has produced one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, with 6 million people displaced in Syria, and 5.6 million more refugees who have fled the country. |
