Australian photojournalist Daniel Berehulak was honored as Freelance/Agency Photographer of the Year. Based in India, Berehulak has traveled to more than 40 countries covering such events as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the 2011 Japanese tsunami and the aftermath of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Ukraine. His work appears regularly in The New York Times, Time magazine and Der Spiegel. His 2013 portfolio includes stories about the hunger crisis in Afghanistan, religious pilgrims in India and the farewell to former South African President Nelson Mandela. |
