Existing comment: Decades after President Kennedy's famous speech at the Berlin Wall, some claimed that by using the phrase "Ich bin ein Berliner," his speech translated as "I am a jelly doughnut." In some parts of Germany, a Berliner is a name for a jelly-filled doughnut. But Kennedy's use of the phrase "ein Berliner" was the way people of Berlin referred to themselves.
